*I was hosted by Visit Tallahassee for a few days in exchange for media coverage. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
As you all know, I recently got to spend 4 days in a new city, a place in Florida I’ve never been and also the capital city…Tallahassee! I always get excited when I get to visit a new place and Florida happens to be one of my favorite states. It’s one of those places you can go and find everything to do that you need to, whether it’s hiking, boating, shopping, or the beach. Tallahassee is definitely one of those cities that has nearly everything to offer! 😁
During our stay, we stayed at the Aloft Tallahassee Downtown, which was such a chic and modern boutique hotel. It’s located conveniently downtown, only 1 mile from Florida State and FAMU. It is also only a 9 minute walk from the State Capitol! Breakfast is also made to order, rather than buffet style. This was right up my alley, as I could customize my order the way I liked and my food was piping hot! 😃
THE LOBBY
THE ROOM
ACTIVITIES
Jungle Boat Cruise at Wakulla Springs
One of the fun activities you can do while in Tallahassee is take a short drive up to the Wakulla Springs State Park and embark on a jungle boat cruise. Prior to this trek, I had no idea that a body of water was so close to the capital city. It’s super peaceful here and takes you away temporarily from the busy city and noise. It’s tranquil and a lovely way to unplug! We spotted much wildlife along the way, including alligators which everyone was excited about. Being from Louisiana, I am used to seeing these in person and on menus! 😆
Ziplining Over The Tallahassee Museum
During this trip, I also got to cross something off my bucket list that I’ve been meaning to do forever…ziplining! Who knew that Tallahassee offered such a fun and adventurous activity?! Not only do you get to enjoy history at a very picturesque museum, but you also have the option to zipline across and through it, all while enjoying beautiful wildlife at unimaginable views. Guys, I’m telling you. If you are a nature lover like myself that truly takes pride in the Earth and everything it has to offer, you need to experience this at least once. It was far beyond my wildest dreams!
The actual zipline course itself is quite the challenge, in a good way! There are different routes you can choose, based on your physical ability and wants. Of course I chose the most challenging! 😂 I ended up getting a great workout and felt amazing afterwards!
This opportunity also gave me the chance to test my Dior Forever Glow foundation, which is supposed to be water resistant up to 24 hours. I can say without a doubt…that it WORKS! Now it doesn’t stop you from sweating, which it doesn’t claim to do, but I can tell you that I was drenched in sweat by the end of the course and I showered (not touching my face) and didn’t have to touch up my makeup. Everything stayed in place. I was seriously shocked!
LUXURY SHOPPING
Hearth & Soul
Hearth & Soul is a curated collection of simple, modern and classic items. I was able to find many recognizable brands in home and fashion. Each of the rooms are very homey and make you feel like you’re at home. It helps make it a more relaxing place to shop!
Coton Colors
What I love most about Coton Colors is how everything is handmade. The company itself was built off this premise, along with the creator and founder Laura Johnson’s love for entertaining guests. I’m also a fan of all the seasonal items. They are unique and not found anywhere else! 😃
Places We Had Breakfast, Brunch & Lunch
Au Péché Mignon French Pastry Shop
For breakfast one morning, we went to Au Péché Mignon French Pastry Shop. Now I am one of those people who can’t eat sweets right when I wake up like that, so I ate breakfast at the hotel before we left and bought some macarons for later, haha. Their coffee is also amazing!
Table 23
Now this is a place I was excited about. Well tbh, food in general gets me excited, but that’s besides the point. When I got word that Table 23 had a Southern inspired menu, I was over the moon. I had no doubt there would be fried green tomatoes on the menu. Lo and behold, my eyes darted to them on the menu before anything else! 😂 So, so good y’all. Also the tater tots and cheese grits were amazing! Obviously the fried green tomato sandwich without the bacon was mine! 😎
Jeri’s Midtown Cafe
Hopefully my crooked edit of the steps isn’t giving you nausea like it is me right now! 😣
So I’ll just leave this statement here before I discuss anymore food in this post. I enjoyed all the places Visit Tallahassee brought us. Jeri’s Midtown Cafe was no different! Everything was amazing and I truly appreciated the owner and her concern about there being vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. I was very impressed!
Pimento cheese is honestly one of the many reasons I’m not all the way vegan and I’m so glad I was still vegetarian when I tried this. Seriously the best I’ve had! It was such a nice twist to the traditional bread and butter most other restaurants give you before your appetizer and meal.
This was one time I didn’t regret ordering a bowl of tomato bisque rather than a cup. I could have eaten an entire gallon of this stuff and still been craving more. It was amazing! I ordered The Kev, a vegetarian sandwich pictured right above the tomato bisque, to go with it!
Sage Restaurant
Though I consider myself mainly vegetarian, I do enjoy seafood from time to time. Everyone else in our group except for myself and another girl decided to try escargot for the first time. I usually don’t wimp out on trying new things, but I was 100% a wimp on this one; I couldn’t do it. I can say that everything else I did order I enjoyed! Sage Restaurant was such a great pick for lunch! ☺️
Places We Had Happy Hour
Level 8 Lounge
Level 8 Lounge is a rooftop bar located in the Hotel Duval. We were able to enjoy quite a few refreshing drinks here. They say this hotel is the place to see and to be seen. It also offers incredible views of Tallahassee, right on the balcony!
Proof Brewing Co.
Before enjoying some beer tasting for ourselves, we were able to enjoy a nice tour of Proof Brewing Co. Not only does Proof has an intimate and modern tasting room, but it also has an expansive lawn, covered patio, private events room, and on-site restaurant. It’s the perfect place to hang with friends, or just have a chill time, 7 days a week!
Places We Had Dinner
Backwoods Crossing
Y’all should already know how I am about farm-to-table dining in general…I love it! So when I realized Backwoods Crossing was on our itinerary, I already knew the food would be fresh and delicious. What really put the icing on the cake was getting to see where the food was grown and animals are raised. It truly makes you appreciate your meal that much more!
Il Lusso
Italian cuisine is definitely up there, as far as one of my favorite types of foods to eat and Il Lusso did not disappoint! So many pasta and veggie options. I felt like a sausage walking out of there, I ate so much! 😝
Madison Social
I didn’t know what to think when I realized Madison Social was right in the middle of FSU College Town, but it’s not what you may think! For one, the food is incredible and the music is on point! Actually the music everywhere we went was amazing! Now I am a person who likes all genres of music. I love how they played of mix of oldies and current music. It wasn’t as crazy as I thought it would be being in this area. The atmosphere was perfect for a place like this. The drinks are also very good! ☺️
I thought I’d link my wedges I wore with a lot of my outfits. They are sooo comfortable for walking around. I’m so glad I brought them with me!
I had so much fun in this city; I cannot even begin to tell you! Prior to this trip, I could only think of Tallahassee as a college town, but it is SO much more. There is something for anyone of any age group to do! I highly recommend you visit this city for yourself to see everything it has to offer. Click here to learn even more! 😁
The jungle boat cruise!! Totally reminds me of Disneyland and I love it! the photos are so pretty 🙂 I hope you had an amazing time in Tallahassee!
