Hey beauties! As you all know, I relocated to Dallas about a month ago and as expected, it’s been a blast. Some people who move to TX from LA call it culture shock, but I see it as a good thing. Some people even move back to LA, which I can’t understand to save my life. Why go back to such a corrupted place?!
In being here, I have learned a few things about myself that I wanted to share, and to also switch up my regular “OOTD” posting without saying much else…haha.
1) I really hated Louisiana.
As I mentioned before, coming here was a culture shock, in a good way. Everything is so much more advanced…the roads, the businesses, the schools, means of transportation and the list literally goes on forever. It’s almost like Texas is living in the present and Louisiana is stuck in the past. It may also be because of the crooks that are running the state (that’s for a whole other post though).
2) DPSs in Texas suck too.
In total, I waited in line right at 8 hours to get my driver’s license…3 in high humidity heat in line outside and 5 inside in line. Louisiana lines are no better. There has to be a better way to facilitate the lines. It’s like no one has any common sense on how to make the process smoother. The old school way ain’t working. You would think they would implement technology somehow like they do with everything else these days, but…NOPE!
3) Texas drivers are crazy.
This is also a great thing because I am too, so I fit right in. Drivers here don’t play behind the wheel or on the highway and they know how to get out of the way and drive in the proper lanes. It’s such a breath of fresh air and so unlike how it is in Louisiana.
4) Texas foods aren’t as bad as people think.
Whenever I have traveled outside of Louisiana, I have always asked for extra seasoning on my food at restaurants and I usually haven’t had any issues. Same holds true today. I do this when going to restaurants and my food almost tastes exactly like home. If it doesn’t, I send it back and get it corrected. And also a side note, In-N-Out is not better than Shake Shack. Sorry!
5) There are so many more fashion bloggers in Dallas and TX in general, and they’re all actually friendly.
I can’t say the same for some of those in Louisiana. Not all of them, but some have their nose in the air and stick to certain cliques and it’s ok to have a “squad,” but don’t treat others like they’re beneath you, because they’re more than likely not.
6) My faith has been elevated.
Only a few people may understand this who are actually from Louisiana and are believers, but LA has a claustrophobia, where there is a certain ceiling you cannot get past. For one, there are so many politics involved with promotions and landing jobs in general. In TX, the number of opportunities are endless. To be honest, I was mentally exhausted from living in LA. I was a lot lazier and I hated getting up every morning (that may also be due to working for someone other than myself as well). Even when traveling and returning to LA, my mind would instantly shut down and think, “Why am I still here and not in another uplifting state?” I must say, I feel a lot better physically and look forward to waking up each morning in a state full of opportunity and I feel like I actually belong here. There’s more diversity and even though TX may be one of the most racist states (read in an article by God knows who because I can’t see it), it nowhere near compares to LA. I actually feel like my presence is welcomed here.
7) The sky is literally my limit.
A reiteration from my previous point, I feel more free. In Louisiana, I probably would have still had a job, afraid to step out on faith. Moving caused me to either have to find a job, or just trust in God that things would work out. Thankfully, I relied on the latter and everything is just fine. If a business trip comes up, I can just go. I don’t have to ask for permission. I have been able to take a lot more trips last minute, than I would have been able to, having a job where PTO had to be requested and approved. There’s nothing better than having a free mind and spirit; it’s knowing you’re truly happy at the point in life where God has you.
So great that you’ve learned so much from Texas and that the F-bloggers are nice 🙂 It’s a lot more fun when you can see eachother as collegues/friends instead of enemies. Never been in Texas, but maybe one day… Also love the deets on your legging.

I’m glad you wrote this post because I think it’s important to evaluate and self reflect especially if there’s a significant change in your life like a move. It sounds like you’re adjusting well so I’m glad Texas is treating you right!
It’s so interesting to hear about the different things you’ve learned living in Texas for 1 month! I actually learned a lot too after moving from LA to Palm Springs. Even though it’s only 2 hours away, I feel like the two cities are SO different. Just like you, I experienced MAJOR culture shock. Everyone in PS is so laid back (well, and retired lol) while everyone in LA is always hustling and bustling and only thinking about themselves (for the most part). Overall, I’m happy with my move. LA is a great place to visit but not to live in. I’m glad to hear that you are adjusting well so far to your new home! xo, sharon
Cool post. I know a few people contemplating moving to Texas, and I will share this with them. Everything is really all about perception. If you don’t like being in a place, you won’t like anything about it. But if you love being in a place, you’ll see the good in everything. Although Louisiana is behind in a lot of rhings, I absolutely love New Orleans and feel like I’m in a whole other world. Life is what you make it.
Hey Dear,

It’s been a long time since I have not visit Texas but I heard the same thing theres a cultural shock of people moving there that are from a big popular city like LA or NY. I still think is very beautiful and cant wait to visit it again. Now I have a good excuse to come since you are there 🙂
I’m so happy that you are already very well-situated in Texas 🙂 I’ve had Texas BBQ and it was amazingggg!! I don’t really know what the blogging situation is like in LA, but it’s great you’ve already met some awesome bloggers in your area. Anyways, I hope I get a chance to meet you one day, as I have relatives that live in Dallas! http://www.samanthamariko.com
Carbon38 is one of my favorite workout brands. Their material is super nice and I love their unique and intricate details that makes the whole athleisure look so much more interesting. Glad that you are loving and settling in Texas, I think everyone has their sweet spot when it comes to living and working. I am a cali girl through and through. While I love the hustle and bustle of NYC, I need my sunshine and palm trees and beaches.
First of all let me say that you totally slay this Carbon38 athleisure look. I enjoyed your post so much, as I’m interested in knowing more about the US. It really looks like moving to Texas has improved the quality of your life and your morale in general! 8 hrs to get your driving licence is crazy anywhere! I would compare Italian bloggers to bloggers in Louisiana. It’s hard to survive if you’re not like them, but you did and I will (since I’ve no intention of moving right now). Lots of love, Valeria
