Okay, so in this post, I have a serious confession to make. One of the real reasons I haven’t made the switch to full on vegetarian is because of catfish. It is one of those seafoods I simply cannot do without, no matter how hard I try! I have even gone so far to eliminate all other seafoods, but catfish is definitely here to stay…for now. I also eat salmon from time to time, but it’s definitely not a fish I just have to have. Being the lover of catfish that I am, I just had to find a more guiltless way to prepare it, in a way where I could still live with myself after indulging in it. That’s why I am sharing my Cajun Catfish Tacos recipe with you using BetterBody Foods!
You Will Need:
You want to first start by filling the bottom of your favorite frying pot or pan with peanut oil. You could definitely use any of the BetterBody Foods oils, but keep in mind, they vanish quite quickly when deep frying catfish. I heated my pot on medium heat. An easy way to test if your grease it hot enough is to sprinkle a pinch of batter into the pot. If it sizzles, it’s hot. If it doesn’t, let it heat a bit longer until it does.
Continue by filleting your catfish and slicing it into strips. Feel free to substitute any other fish in place of this. You could even do chicken strips if you want!
Once you’ve washed and drained your catfish strips in a colander, you can continue with a marinade. I like to use Louisiana Hot Sauce for mine, but feel free to use whatever you’d like. If you like a bit of a kick in your catfish, do yours like I did mine! ☺️
Now this is where you’ll have to put your taste buds to work. What you want to do is take a mixture of BetterBody Foods Coconut Flour, garlic salt, granulated onion, honey sriracha seasoning, paprika and peppercorns to create the flavor in the batter to your liking. You pretty much have to pinch taste the batter as you go to determine what is needed. If it makes it easier for you, you could even start with an unseasoned MSG-free fish batter as a base and add coconut flour and the rest of the spices to it to get the right flavor. I don’t like specifying specific measurements because it’s always going to vary based on what the particular person likes. I’ve tried countless “recipes” and hated them because the flavor wasn’t on point and I always end up having to add extra spices here and there. Therefore, this method will help you ensure you get the flavor you like! 😘 (Also, some of you may follow low sodium diets or a gastro diet that doesn’t allow pepper, so there’s just another reason why I don’t like to give specific measurements.)
Once you get the flavor to your liking, you can add your fish, one at a time, to the mixing bowl. You want to make sure you taste your batter before adding the fish in because otherwise, your taste buds will be met with raw catfish, which of course is no fun. Be sure to coat each piece of fish fully in the batter. If you want a thicker coating, feel free to dip it in an egg wash and recoat in the fish batter!
Add the coated pieces of catfish into your piping hot grease. You can add enough pieces in there to where none are overlapping.
Once your fish is browned to your liking (do not overcook!), you can remove them from the pot and add them into a clean dish. Now I’m a country girl, so where I’m from, we use baking pans lined with paper towels to absorb the grease. I also use a salad utensil to pick up the pieces of fish from the pot…so much easier than spatulas!
As your fish cools a little, you can continue by prepping your tortillas. This is also where the freedom is up to you, but feel free to follow along! I start with my BetterBody Foods Avocado Oil Mayo and spread it across the entire tortilla.
Add your desired amount of diced jalapeños.
Add your spinach, followed by your fried catfish strips. 2 is perfect for my wrap!
Sprinkle your desired amount of green onions, followed by however much hot sauce on the top. Finally, it’s grub time! 🤤🤤
Wrap and enjoy! 🙃

I’ve never had catfish before! I’ve never been the biggest seafood fan, but a couple years back I began to enjoy it more. I’ll have to try out this recipe for myself at some point!

My dad would LOVE these! He is obsessed with Catfish! I, on the other hand, don’t eat seafood. I will definitely try this recipe with chicken strips as you mentioned. You should become a pescatarian! My sister is, and she is a vegetarian who is also able to eat fish! 🙂
