I always thought I wanted to get married indoors, inside a church. As a Christian, I thought I had to in order for it to be just. The older and more wiser I got, I realized that none of that really matters and some people like to add onto what’s actually accurate to make it more convenient for them. Also from being a blogger, I know that indoor photography is my least favorite and in order to get that look I want, I need my wedding to be outdoors, with natural light!
Though the lighting in my photos is one of the most important, there are several other things to consider when deciding on an indoor or outdoor wedding.
Indoor Wedding (Pros & Cons):
No picturesque spots except for the decor. I know for my blogger feed and what I love, instagrammable spots are a must. There's only so many photos that can be taken, that are unique, with an indoor venue.
You have to pay closer attention to the type of lighting indoors. For my personal taste, I hate shooting anywhere with yellow lighting. It looks absolutely horrible in photos, and even worse when the photos are placed in Photoshop. It's just once again, not a good look for my feed.
Better temperature control. This may be a major upside for some people, including myself. I am one of those people who get very hot very quickly and cannot stand the slightest hint of humid heat, which is going to be impossible to avoid being in the Southern states. Indoor venues have air conditioning, which helps to alleviate any heat that may arise during the ceremony/reception.
Possibility of running out of space. For the reception, this won't be an issue because everyone typically has a certain number that is allowed inside, due to there only being a certain amount of food prepared and people paid for. When it comes to the actual wedding, there is usually no limit. With the wedding being indoors, there is a huge possibility of running out of space, especially if it's a larger family. Having a wedding outdoors can give much more room for guests to attend and be a part of the ceremony.
Outdoor Wedding (Pros & Cons):
Bug problem. Living in the south, this issue is unavoidable. From love bugs, to mosquitos, to wasps, to bees, this is bound to be an issue, no matter the time of year. However, there are certain precautions you can take to reduce the chance of this happening (e.g. getting someone to spray the area beforehand).
The temperature and climate. With an outdoor wedding, the temperature can't be controlled. That also includes whether or not it rains. Depending on the precipitation, if any, it may force you to have to move your wedding indoors, which can end up being more costly.
Prettier scenery for photos. With an outdoor wedding, the beauty of nature is endless. There are so many free props that can already be there to make their appearance in your photos, which can help reduce the amount you spend on decor. Sounds like a win-win to me!
At the end of the day, as with each aspect of your wedding, you have to weigh the pros and cons of what type of venue you'd like to have for your wedding, as well as figure out which are most important to you. Since photography is one of the most important things to me, it's no question that I will be having an outdoor wedding. I cannot risk having mediocre photos. A wedding is not anything I plan to do over again after the first time. You can check out other pros and cons, as well as any other planning advice and tips on WeddingWire here!
There’s so much to think about when planning the wedding! I remember wanting one or the other, and all the pros and cons can really weigh on you! I’ve been to outdoor weddings where it was 96 and humid and it made it so uncomfortable to just be outside.
OK well if you put it that way, I think in this Instagram world Id rather have an outdoor wedding because the bug issue we can deal with but not having an “instagrammable wedding” would be a problem! LOL! Great tips!
We had a Church wedding, and the photos are some of my favorites, luckily the photog removed the yellow as much as possible. But I wouldn’t have been able to deal with an outdoor wedding with how hot the day was. I was already sweating I would’ve sweat my makeup off. But I love the idea of outdoor weddings but so many different variables made me not want to do it.
That’s a really pretty dress you have there dear! Loving the classic stripe and sexy style, especially the slit. And yes, both aspects has its own set of pros and cons. It just boils down to what you want most, and the compromises you’re willing to take.
